4th of July

We had a nice relaxing 4th of July this year. I debated whether or not to host a BBQ or make big plans but the kids seemed content to just go with the flow and see where the day would take us.
We ended up sleeping in a bit and when we were all up and about we headed down to the pool for an hour or so of free swim. I wish I was home more to take them to the pool. I feel rather guilty that they are not the best swimmers. I know it would only take a couple good tries to get them swimming well on their own if only we could go more often. Despite not being great swimmers they had a great time. Deni is fearless in the water, which makes mom fearful!
After our swim time we went home to warm showers and to get ready to go down to Mickey-D's. It was wonderful to not have to cook in the heat!
We had some major time to kill until it was time for fireworks. Unfortunately Dennis and I couldn't talk the girls into a nap! So we instead relaxed and watched a family movie and played some games.
When dark finally came we dug out the popcorn maker and shaved ice machine and made goodies for the show. We don't live too far from the fair grounds where the fireworks display was to be, so we moved the cars from the driveway and brought out old blankets and pillows and chilled on our driveway. It was a really beautiful evening. The weather was nice, not too hot and very still for the fireworks. We could have camped out there all night if we weren't afraid of bugs!
I guess we celebrated our freedom by having a "free" day and just going with the flow.
